Continuous Terrace
The word terrazzo derives from the Italian word terrazza and was coined in the 15th century when Venetian marble workers in the Friuli region discovered a new use for discarded marble scraps. These marble workers began using these remnants to cover the surface of the open "terraces" around their houses, which they then compacted by walking on them.
Over time, tools for compaction and subsequent polishing were created, giving rise to terrazzo as we know it today.
Continuous terrazzo is considered a contemporary solution for decorative interior flooring in modern architecture. Throughout centuries of history, terrazzo has proven to be a perfect choice for projects requiring durability, beauty, and low maintenance.
It is common to associate the term "continuous terrazzo" with solutions that are not actually continuous, generating confusion with other pavements or solutions of very different types, sometimes because they are also polished, because they contain stone filler, or simply to associate them with the prestige that continuous terrazzo has among experts.
IT'S NOT
It is not a prefabricated product (like a tile), it is not brought to the installation site already manufactured.
There is no catalog of terrazzo because its possibilities are endless.
It is not a pure derivative of a material found in nature (stone, wood); it requires human intervention by creating a matrix with different components.
It does not have set dimensions because it is done continuously.
IF IT IS
It is a handcrafted product, made exclusively for each case.
It is carried out on-site, and its always visible finish is achieved through a roughing and polishing process.
Since it is made on site, it does not have a pre-established factory shape and can be adapted to any area.
Its production requires a mixture of different components (stone aggregates of different types and a matrix that can be cementitious or synthetic), many of them from recycling.

Each installation is unique, resulting in an exclusive and distinctive floor, the product of artisanal craftsmanship that stands in contrast to the immediacy, standardization, and rapid obsolescence of many modern materials.
